Montacute Open Gardens
This event rested in 2017 so we don't have any recent event details. When we get updated information, we'll add it here, but in the meantime we include below event information from a previous year to remind you about the event.
Montacute, near Yeovil, Somerset
Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July 2016
11.00am to 5.00pm
The beautiful historic village of Montacute, famous for its wonderful Elizabethan National Trust House opens its doors with a rare glimpse of cottage and country gardens open to the public.
Our gardens are all completely different in size and content. Some garden owners will offer demonstrations, refreshments, tell stories about the development of our lovely village gardens, famous Hollywood blockbusters filmed here and history of the village.
The Village Hall welcomes you for locally sourced food including a generous Somerset Ploughmans, homemade cordials, cream teas, homemade cakes, Fairtrade and specialist teas served in vintage teapots overlooking the wonderful National Trust Orchards and House Grounds.
This year we hosted the filming of the new BBC Drama Wolf Hall and Channel 4's Hidden Villages with Penelope Keith. Other gardens of Montacute are famous in Hollywood as films including Sense and Sensibility, and Johnny Depp's The Libertine which were all were filmed here.
This year will also be the first ever public viewing of the newly restored Dovecot built originally in 1750 with rare double nesting.
