Herne and Broomfield Garden Safari

This event is resting for 2024
Sorry, but Herne and Broomfield Garden Safari isn't running this year. We'll keep you posted about next year's event details when they are known, but in the meantime we include below details from a previous year to remind you about the event

approx 10 gardens opened Herne Mill, near Herne Bay, Kent
Sunday 11th June 2023
11.00am to 5.00pm

You are invited to tour our parish and enjoy our varied gardens - we have something for everyone.

Some of the features to look out for are: borders bursting with vibrant or pastel colours, a sea themed rockery, a lovely fig tree, grape vine, tree fern and voodoo lilies.

One garden is exceptional in that the owner has done all of the work one handed after a motorbike accident at 21, when he lost the use of his left arm and hand. Some gardens are managed to be wildlife friendly, several have vegetables, fruit, flowers or a pond and one has a greenhouse and tunnel to grow plants for sale.

You can see the restoration work that has been carried out at our local pond, on the way to meet the gardeners at our allotments and hear their stories about creating and caring for their plots.

The Herne Gardening Club’s Summer Show is being held on the same day, in St. Martin’s Church Hall.

Our historic Grade 1 listed St. Martin’s church, dates from the 14th century and is a large, handsome structure consisting of three aisles, three chancels and a tower. The grounds of this beautiful historic churchyard area is being sensitively restored to create a haven for wildlife and peace.
