Quorn Open Gardens - location

open gardens image Open Gardens in Quorn attracts people from a wide area. Getting to our village is easy. For general location information, check out the website for Quorn Village - it contains maps and a location guide.

When you reach the village, the instructions below will help you find the correct place.

Buses run through the centre of the village from Loughborough and Leicester. There is no mainline railway station in Quorn, but there is one in Barrow upon Soar, about 30 minutes walk away. The Great Central Steam Railway has a station in Quorn, and this is within easy walking distance of gardens that are open. You can travel from Loughborough, Rothley and Leicester North on this line.

Traveling from Loughborough:
Leave Loughborough either on the A6 or the new Epinal Way link road. When you reach the large roundabout north of Quorn, follow the signs for the village (either straight on at the roundabout or right). Go through the traffic lights and over a mini-roundabout. The Quorndon Fox pub will be on your right and then The White Hart. Opposite this pub is The Banks where there will be a plant sale and information point where you can buy your Open Gardens Passport - come back to that later. Continue on until you reach another mini-roundabout. You will see The White Horse Pub and The Royal Oak, and across to the right is the Memorial Garden. If you turn left at the mini-roundabout, there is plenty of parking either on the road or in the car park to the right. Walk through the churchyard to The Banks to start your visit.

Traveling from Leicester on the A6
Follow signs for Loughborough until you reach a roundabout with Mountsorrel signposted to the left (ignore the previous signed non-roundabout exit). Turn left here, then at the next roundabout turn right. Drive into the village, over the mini-roundabout, pass the Quorn Country Hotel on your right, and the Police Station on your left. Keep going until you reach another mini-roundabout. You will see The White Horse Pub and The Royal Oak, and on the left is the Memorial Garden. If you turn right at the mini-roundabout, there is plenty of parking either on the road or in the car park to the right. Walk up the alley between the shops, through the churchyard to The Banks where there is a plant sale and where you can buy your Open Gardens Passport.

Traveling from Woodhouse Eaves direction
As you head into the village you will pass over a small railway bridge, and then The Manor House pub will be on your left. Turn right here into Chaveney Road. Follow this road until you reach a mini-roundabout. If you go over the mini-roundabout, there is plenty of parking either on the road or in the car park to the right. Walk up the alley between the shops, through the churchyard to The Banks where there is a plant sale and where you can buy your Open Gardens Passport.

Arriving on the Great Central Railway
Come out of the station and turn right into Chaveney Road. There are usually gardens open along this road, so look out for the signs and obtain your passport on the gate. Alternatively follow the road to the centre of the village - you will arrive at The White Horse Pub and The Royal Oak. Turn left here and walk up to The Banks where there is a plant sale and where you can buy your Open Gardens Passport.

From Barrow upon Soar Station
You can cycle or walk to Quorn quite easily. Walking takes 20 to 30 minutes; cycling 10 minutes. You have a choice of routes - the River Loop (walking and with styles to cross) or The Slabs (walking and cycling).

Quorn via the River Loop
Leave the station and at the top of the walkway turn right over the bridge. Turn left and then right down Ribble Drive. Follow this road down the hill to the bottom, then turn left past The Navigation pub. Resist the urge to go in, and pass by the pub over the small canal bridge. Follow the lane (past the cottages on the right) and look for a footpath on the left - it will have a swing gate. Follow the path to the end and cross over the river. Then follow the grass path keeping the river to your right - there are yellow posts marking the route. You will pass under the A6 road. Towards the end of the footpath it will diverge from the river and bring you to Leicester Road in Quorn. Turn right, head over the mini-roundabout, pass the Quorn Country Hotel on your right, and the Police Station on your left. Keep going until you reach another mini-roundabout. You will see The White Horse Pub and The Royal Oak. Go straight on and walk up to The Banks where there is a plant sale and where you can buy your Open Gardens Passport

Quorn via The Slabs
Leave the station and at the top of the walkway turn right over the bridge. Turn right at the T-junction and follow the road to the fossil roundabout. Head down the hill and pass the Soar Bridge pub on your left. Go over the river bridge and immediately turn left onto The Slabs footpath. Follow this across the fields, over the A6 and into Quorn. When you reach houses, follow the path directly ahead across Meynell Road (it follows a short alleyway). Keep heading directly into the village - you will go through Catherine Close, and pass the Apple tree Pub. Keep on going, pass the park on the left, then shops on the right. Walk up the alley between the shops, through the churchyard to The Banks where there is a plant sale and where you can buy your Open Gardens Pas sport.

Note that some of this route involves one-way streets, so take care if on a bike.
